Anyone who owns a dog is faced with the problem of maintaining their nails in a practical and affordable way. Depending on what breed of dog you have trying to keep their nails tidy can seem like a huge obstacle to overcome. Your vet will be happy to cut your dogs nails for a fee but it is not always practical or feasible to take your pouch to the vet's every time they need a trimming.

As an owner and breeder of Great Danes I would like to share with you a wonderful little tool for managing your dogs nails in an easy and affordable way. You may already have this nifty little device. It is called a dremel and can be found at your local hardware store very inexpensively. A dremel is a rotating tool that basically grinds your dogs nails down and gives them a nice even shape. This works so much better than using those horrible clippers because you are able to shape your dogs nails the way you want tthem.

Before we began using the dremel we had an awful time trying to cut our dogs nails. Our vet didn't do much better, and never seemed to get them short enough. Our dogs nails would always splinter and chip when we tried cutting them and she had very long quicks. We were afraid that we would never be able to get her nails under control. After we started using the dremel nail care was so much easier. And an added bonus is that the heat from the dremel causes the quick to retract back into the dogs inner nail thus making it easier to get nice short nails.

So, if you want to be able to succesfully maintain your dog nails without the hassel of the clippers I strongly recomend giving a dremel a try. You won't be sorry you did!

Thanks for sharing this information. Doesn't your dog get spooked by the noise? Well I can tell you I'm going to try it.

LOL LOL LOL I was a manicurist for 11 years or so, and used this all the time on my clients for their nails. I imagine it would be good for dogs too! lol Great idea! Welcome to Hubpages.

Thank you for the positive feedback and the nice welcome In The Doghouse! I didn't realize that manicurists used this too!!

Zsuzsy, No they really are not spoked by the noise. With a big dog, like a Great Dane it takes two people to get the nails done, but they get used to the noise and our dogs prefer the Dremel over the regular clippers. That was a nightmare!

I am so excited about this solution because my puppy is seriously frightened of the clippers. She runs to her crate when I pick them up, and she HATES her crate!I even have a dremel already. I'm going to give this a try.
